Tahpanhes

Tah´puhn-heez

A town mentioned several times in the book of Jeremiah (Jer 2:16, Jer 43:7-9, Jer 44:1, Jer 46:14). It was known to the Greeks as Daphnai and has been identified with the modern Tell Defenneh, situated on the Nile in the northeast Delta. In about 586 BCE, the prophet Jeremiah and other Jews sought refuge at Tahpanhes from the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar (Jer 43:7; Jer 44:1; Jer 46:14).
