1 The valley in Judah where David is reported to have killed Goliath (1Sam 17:2; 1Sam 17:19; 1Sam 21:9); it was protected by the cities of Libnah and Azekah (modern Wadi es-Sant). 2 The son and successor of Baasha, king of Israel. He ruled for less than two years (ca. 886 BCE). While he was intoxicated, he was murdered by Zimri in Tirzah (1Kgs 16:6-14). 3 The father of Hoshea, the last king of Israel (ca. 732–723 BCE).
